Bible Reading: Habakkuk 1:1-4 and 2:15-20
Key Verse: Verse 1:4 - “Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth."
Key Words: Therefore the law is slacked
The prophecy of Habakkuk was sometime between 625-606 B.C.
The prophecy in chapters 1 and 2 involve two complaints. In chapter 1 the people were allowing unrighteousness to prevail, and in chapter 2 the people were involved with false worship.
We are warned in Isaiah 5:20a, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil.” People have reached the height of a depraved state when they can’t see evil.
I marvel at how someone can see teenaged school youth talk back to teachers, get up and walk out of class without permission, play on cell phones during class time, cheat on tests, and they can still say, “They’re not that bad.” What !! Now we know why these young people talk back, cheat, walk out of class, play on their cell phones! The one in charge is the problem.
When we can’t see that these things are evil, we have become spiritually blind. We daily need to ask God to open our eyes to see evil as evil and respond accordingly.
The captain of the Titanic refused to believe the ship was in trouble till water was ankle deep in the mail room. Only then was it apparent the multi-layered hull had been pierced and the unsinkable ship was going to sink. Ships that could have arrived before the great ocean liner went down weren’t summoned until it was too late.
There is none so blind as he who will not see.
What to do:
✞ Remember, disorder is not a sign of the times; it’s a sign of wickedness.
