Daily Devotion: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Bible Reading: Psalm 139

Key Verse: Verse 14 - “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”

Key Words: I will praise thee

In our Bible reading for today, the psalmist is praising God for making him and thanking God for His marvelous handiwork of creating man.

Biologist Albert T. Smith made the following statement: “Man’s best efforts to duplicate himself falls far short of what many in the field of science believe is God’s most fantastic creation: the human brain.” Smith goes on to say, “As computers continue to be developed, intricate and astounding as they are, they merely point out similarities that prove that the brain, as God’s computer, is matchless.”

The brain has perhaps thirty million neurons, but each has connections with other brain cells. Each of these connections has the capacity of varying communications with neighboring cells. Thus, information passed by a neuron is almost limitless. The storage capacity of the brain is vastly superior to the computer. To provide a computer with such capacity is far beyond the technology of our day. Impressed as we are with what is known about the human brain, there is even more that is unknown.” Dr. Smith goes on to say, “Whatever the reason for our shortcomings to fully understanding the brain, what we do know creates an awe of God!”

No wonder the psalmist said, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm 139:14)

What to do:
✞ Understand that you are fearfully and wonderfully made and that you belong to God-not yourself or the world-but to God (I Corinthians 6:19-20).

List some things that God has created and why you are thankful for these things.
