Daily Devotion: WHAT EXACTLY IS FAITH?

Bible Reading: Hebrews 11

Key Verse: Verse 1 – “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Key Words: Now faith

We read a lot about faith in God’s Word. We walk by faith (II Corinthians 5:7). We are justified by faith (Galatians 2:16). We live by faith (Galatians 3:2). We please God by faith (Hebrews 11:6). We work by faith (James 2:20). “Whatsoever is not of faith is sin” (Romans 14:23). Faith comes through hearing God’s Word (Romans 10:17). You can see the importance of faith; but what exactly is faith? Faith is taking God at His Word, in spite of my feelings, circumstances, or consequences. I believe God and act upon it.

As you read Hebrews, chapter 11, you read about some twenty-six individuals who lived by faith: who overcame their feelings, overcame their circumstances, and did not focus on the consequences of obeying the Word of God. They indeed were men and women of faith.

A little girl had been attending a Sunday School session where each student had made a little plaque with the words “Have Faith in God” as the motto. She boarded a bus that would take her to her home, and as the bus was starting to move, she realized she did not have her little motto with her. She jumped from her seat, and dashing up the aisle to the driver, she shouted, “Stop the bus! I’ve lost my ‘Faith in God.’”

Don’t lose faith, for you can’t make it through life without it!! Always remember, when faith goes to the market, it always takes a basket!

What to do:
✞ Remember, little faith brings the soul to heaven; great faith brings heaven to the soul.
