Daily Devotion: STEPHEN: A FAITH THAT TESTIFIES

Bible Reading: Acts 7:51-60 and Hebrews 11:37a

Key Verse: Hebrews 11:37a - "They were stoned, …

Key Words: They were stoned

There are several things we know about Stephen. We know that he was the first deacon chosen from the church at Jerusalem. Thus we know that he was a man full of faith (Acts 6:5). Now we all know people who are full of themselves, but how many people do you know who are full of faith?

We also know based upon Acts 7 that Stephen had the faith to testify for Christ. He indeed was full of faith.

When a traveler in the early days of the west came to the Mississippi, he discovered there was no bridge. Fortunately it was winter and the great river was sheeted over with ice. But the traveler was afraid to trust the ice, not knowing how thick it was. Finally with infinite caution, he crept on his hands and knees and managed to get halfway over. And then he heard – yes, he heard singing from behind. Cautiously he turned, and there, out of the dusk, came another traveler, driving a four-horse load of coal over the ice, singing as he went!

Now I ask you, which of these men was full of faith that the ice would hold?

So it is in our lives, many believers crawl their way through because of little faith, and others go along merrily singing, full of faith. Which of these are you?
