Daily Devotion: SARAH: THE FAITH TO JUDGE RIGHT
Bible Reading: Genesis 21:1-8 and Hebrews 11:11
Key Verse: Hebrews 11:11 - “Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.”
Key Words: she judged him faithful who had promised
Sarah was well past the years of motherhood. She was old enough to be Isaac’s great-grandmother. But she judged God to be faithful.
You know, the joy and happiness of our lives, as believers, really depend on how we judge God. Do we doubt Him or do we judge Him to be the righteous God Who is faithful? Sarah judged God to be faithful in several ways.
First of all, she judged Him to be faithful in that her 100-year-old husband could impregnate her with child.
Secondly, she judged God to be faithful that He could see her through the months of pregnancy. Now, ladies, many of you know how tough those months are in your early years. Can you imagine being the age of a great-grandmother and going through those months?
Thirdly, she judged God to be faithful in that she could deliver the child through all the birthing pains and the process of delivery.
As you can see, Sarah’s faith in God was no small thing. You could easily say Sarah had a great faith in God, and that’s the key. Her faith was not in herself or Abraham, but in God.
“George Allen, founder and director of the Bolivian Indian Mission, and his wife made a visit to the famous Mueller Orphan Home in Bristol, England. Mrs. Allen, looking at the five large buildings, said, ‘Dr. Burton, it must take a lot of faith to keep all this going.’ Burton answered, ‘Mrs. Allen, little faith in a strong plank will carry me over the stream, great faith in a rotten plank will land me in the stream.’”
But Sarah had a great faith in a great God which brought Isaac into the world. We need a great faith as well to accomplish great things for God.
What to do:
✞ Judge God to be faithful because men will always fail you.
