Daily Devotion: ISAAC: THE FAITH TO BLESS RIGHT

Bible Reading: Genesis 27:30-40 and Hebrews 11:20

Key Verse: Hebrews 11:20 – "By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

Key Words: By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come

Isaac is the sixth person mentioned in God’s Hall of Faith. Isaac loved Esau more than Jacob (Genesis 25:28). This is where the faith of Isaac comes in. He had blessed Jacob rather than Esau because of his poor eyesight, and the scheming of his wife and Jacob. But Isaac no doubt knew that God’s will had been done (Genesis 27:37), and Isaac had the faith to accept that Jacob being blessed was the will of God.

Walter Knight told of an old Scottish woman who went from home to home across the countryside selling thread, buttons, and shoestrings. When she came to an unmarked crossroad, she would toss a stick into the air and go in the direction the stick pointed when it landed.

One day, however, she was seen tossing the stick up several times. “Why do you toss the stick more than once?” someone asked. “Because,” replied the woman, “it keeps pointing to the left, and I want to take the road on the right.” She then dutifully kept throwing the stick into the air until it pointed the way she wanted to go!

Praise God Isaac didn’t keep throwing a stick up in the air; he had the faith to accept the will of God in this matter.

So let it be in our lives. We must on occasion have faith to accept God’s will when our desires are pressing us to do the opposite.

What to do:
✞ We are safer and better off doing God’s will than pressing forward in our will.
