Daily Devotion: The Problem In Regard To Marriage

Bible Reading: I Corinthians 7

Key Verse: Verse 2 – Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”

Key Words: let every man have his own wife.

As you read in I Corinthians chapter 7, keep in mind that Paul is replying to a definite question. He is not giving a complete dissertation on marriage. But it’s obvious that the church was having some real problems in this area. So Paul writes about three primary things in regard to marriage.

  1. He writes about Christians married to Christians (verses 1 – 11).

  2. He writes about Christians married to non-Christians (verses 12 – 24).

  3. He writes about unmarried Christians (verses 25 – 40).

Let me give you ten steps to having a successful marriage.

  1. Talk to each other.

  2. Tell each other, “I love you.”

  3. Touch each other.

  4. Tantalize each other.

  5. Tolerate each other.

  6. Trust each other.

  7. Treat each other “the way you want to be treated.”

  8. Treasure each other.

  9. Thank each other.

  10. Travel with each other.

Thought: Love is blind, and marriage is an institution; therefore, marriage is an institution for the blind.

What to do:

✞ Apply the ten steps to a successful marriage and marry in God’s will. If you’re not sure, stay single.
