Daily Devotion: We Faint Not

Bible Reading: II Corinthians 4

Key Verse: Verse 1 - “Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;”

Key Words: we faint not

There were certainly plenty of reasons for Paul to faint, yet he refused to. The word faint means to lose heat. Paul just refused to lose heat and be discouraged. Paul gives three reasons that he and we faint not.

  1. We have a glorious ministry (verses 1 – 6).

  2. We have a valuable treasure (verses 7 – 12).

  3. We have a confident faith (verses 13 – 18).

There is a legend of a man who found the barn where Satan kept his seeds ready to be sown in the human heart, and on finding the seeds of discouragement more numerous than others, learned that those seeds could be made to grow almost anywhere. When Satan was questioned, he reluctantly admitted that there was one place in which he could never get them to thrive. “And where is that?” asked the man. Satan replied sadly, “In the heart of a grateful man.”

It just appears as though, to me anyway, we have two choices: either we can be grateful for all the blessings of God, or we can run around discouraged all the time. The choice is yours!

What to do:

✞ In everything give thanks, for this (the giving of thanks) is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
