Someone has said that a
spirit of thankfulness is essential to personal magnetism. Translated, that simply means no one wants to
be around someone who has an unthankful spirit.
Stress researcher, Hans Selye, claims that two attitudes,
more than any other, influence our quality of everyday life. On those two emotions “depend our peace of
mind, our feelings of security and insecurity, of fulfillment or frustration;
in short, the extent to which life is considered successful.”
The most destructive
emotion, Selye says, is revenge. But the
one emotion, more than any other, that accounts for the absence of stress is a
spirit of gratitude. Yes,
thankfulness! Revenge is the outworking
of the flesh in us, but thankfulness is an outworking of the Holy Spirit.
Mike McAdams of
“How is she?” his
pastor asked.
Mike said, “It’s touch
and go. She recognized me, we prayed
together and held hands, and then we quoted James 1:2, ‘My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.’” McAdams went on to say, “You know, it’s
impossible to be anxious and thankful at the same time.”
And he is right, you know. It just depends on which of the two attitudes
you desire the most.
What to do:
✞Live by God’s Word, not by your emotions.
✞Understand that you’ll never develop genuine friendships if you have an unthankful spirit.
