Daily Devotion: Tempting God

Bible Reading: Matthew 4:5-7 (Deuteronomy 6:13-16)

Key Verse: Verse 7 - “Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

Key Words: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God

The question I have is, Why would Satan even think he could tempt God to sin? Why would man think that he is so all-knowing that he could fool God by tempting Him? Beats me…but Jonah thought he could flee from God. Adam and Eve thought they could hide from God! How foolish we can be!

A man stood every morning at 7 AM on his apartment balcony and cried out to God with a loud voice, “I don’t think that God exists. If there is a God, strike me dead now! Everyday nothing would happen. One Sunday morning the man stood on his balcony at 7 AM and did his usual ritual. When he was finished, he looked down at all the by-passers walking to chapel for the early service. He cried out to them, “Where are you going? There is no God! I will prove it again!” So he went through his old routine all over again. An elderly little lady could take it no more. She looked up to his balcony and said as loudly as she could, “You have not proven that God does not exist; but you have proven that my God is full of grace and compassion for all who tempt Him and that He wants you to be one of His!”

Years ago there was a commercial which said, “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.” There is no such thing as “Mother Nature” and I’m also wise enough to know that “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

What to do:
✞ Never think you can fool God. There is a payday someday.
