Bible Reading: Matthew 10:1-15
Key Verse: Verse 14 – “And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.”
Key Words: shake off the dust of your feet
Have you ever been rejected? I’ve done a lot of house-to-house visitation. Not that I kept a count but I probably have been rejected as much as I have been accepted. I have been chewed out, made fun of, rebuked and scolded. It is during those times I remember the words of Jesus “to shake the dust off ‘my’ feet.” Don’t take it with you; don’t let their spirit affect your spirit. Shake it off! Not that we should desire it but there is a payday someday for those who mock and ridicule those who are presenters of the Gospel.
In 1830 George Wilson was sentenced to be executed by hanging for murder. President Andrew Jackson pardoned him but when presented with the pardon, Wilson refused it. The sheriff had to know whether Wilson should hang or not, so the matter came before the U.S. Supreme Court. Chief Justice Marshall, writing for the decision of the Justices said, “A pardon is a piece of paper, the value of which depends upon the acceptance by the person implicated. It is hardly to be supposed that one under sentence of death would refuse to accept a pardon, but if refused, it is no pardon. George Wilson must hang.” And he did!
We are presenters of God’s pardon to man. If they reject this pardon, mock and ridicule us in the process, shake it off and go present God’s pardon to others.
What to do:✞ Don’t be discouraged by the rejection of others. Keep up the good work of faith. Always remember when mocked, made fun of, and ridiculed by others…shake it off and go on about God’s business.
