Daily Devotion: Forgiven

Bible Reading: Matthew 9:1-8

Key Verse: Verse 2 - “And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.”

Key Words: thy sins be forgiven thee

That word forgiven is a very interesting word. It means let go. Here is an assignment for you. Take a pen, place it in your right hand, go and find a large body of water (a lake, river, gulf, ocean), take that pen out into the deep and let it go. Needless to say, that pen is gone forever! That’s what forgiveness means. Jesus took your sins, let them go into the depths of the sea to be gone forever.

George Woodall was a missionary to London’s inner city. One day a young woman he had led to the Lord came to him and said, “I keep getting worried. Has God really forgiven me?” Mr. Woodall replied, “If this is troubling you, I think I know what Jesus would say to you. He would tell you to mind your own business.” A bit shocked she replied, “What do you mean?” He told her that Jesus had made her sins His business and when He took them away, He put them behind His back, dropped them into the depths of the deepest sea and posted a sign that read “NO FISHING”!!

Faith is taking God at His Word, in spite of our feelings, circumstances or trials we are facing. If Jesus said you are forgiven, drop it!! It’s done, you are forgiven!
