Daily Devotion: Ending the Questions

Bible Reading: Matthew 22:41-46

Key Verse: Verse 46 – “And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.”

Key Words: from that day forth ask him any more question

It is now Jesus’ turn to ask a question so He asked the Pharisee, “What think ye of Christ? whose son is he?” Their answer was, “The Son of David.” Jesus then asked another question quoting from the book of Psalms. Verses 43-45, “How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?” He was David’s Lord (God) and the Pharisees had just trapped themselves and they asked Him no more questions.

When the destroyer, Samuel B. Roberts, was sunk by a Japanese battleship, 120 of the almost 300-man crew survived; but of those who did, they well remember the 50 hours they swam in the waters of the Pacific Ocean until one day an American ship spotted them. The American ship, however, did not automatically pull them from the ocean. They were very skeptical that they may have been enemy plants so the captain of the American ship asked a series of questions, one being “who won the last World Series”. They angrily cried out, “The St. Louis Cardinals!” The right answer brought them to safety.
