Daily Devotion: Showing Our Frustration

Bible Reading: Numbers 20:1-13

Key Verse: Verse 10 - “And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?”

Key Words: must we fetch you water out of this rock

Have you ever been frustrated? Why sure, we have all been frustrated at times by the gossiping, murmuring and complaining of others.

That’s where Moses is. The Israelites are complaining to Moses about having no water...“and you, Moses, have brought us here where we and our cattle will die.” So God tells Moses to “speak to the rock and it shall bring forth water.” God wanted Israel to know that He would supply their needs and by this their faith would grow. But in Moses’ frustration, he struck the rock. As a result, he would not be the one to bring the congregation into the “Promised Land.”

Moses had to be asking, Why did I do that? We often will let the action or yes, even the inaction, of others frustrate us. Now again, we all have been frustrated at times; but when our frustrations take control of us and we sin, we not only have a problem, we are a problem.

Reminds me of the story of a baseball coach who had to watch and endure his center fielder having a horrible game. The center fielder had dropped a fly ball hit directly to him. He had let a ground ball roll right through his legs and had misjudged another fly ball allowing a couple of runs to score. In frustration the coach went running out to center field sending his center fielder to the bench in front of the large crowd and declared that the coach would play center field. Well, the next batter hit a fly ball directly to center field where the coach was playing. When the ball arrived, it hit the coach’s glove and dropped to the ground. The coach in total frustration took off running to the bench, grabbed the center fielder and yelled at him, “Son, you’ve got center field so messed up, can’t anybody play it!”

Letting our frustrations show can really make us look foolish to others, which causes us to ask, “Why did I do that?”

What to do:

Don’t let the wrong actions and attitude of others cause you to have wrong actions and attitude.
