The blame game is the oldest game in the world. Adam blamed Eve, Eve blamed the serpent, Sarah blamed Abraham, Ahab blamed Elijah, and Martha blamed Jesus.
Rather than any of these asking, “Why did I do that?” they threw the people who cared for them under the bus.
None of us like to look guilty so we blame others for what we have done. So it was with Jonah. He thought he would look bad to Nineveh because he proclaimed God is going to destroy the city and He didn’t. So what did Jonah do? Blame God!!
All blame is a waste of time, no matter how much fault you find with another and regardless of how much you blame them, it will not change you. The only thing blame does is to keep the focus off of you. You may succeed in making another feel guilty of something by blaming them, but that will not succeed in changing whatever it is about you that is making you unhappy.
One evening several college students spread limburger cheese on the upper lip of a sleeping fraternity brother. Upon awaking, the young man sniffed, looked around and said, “This room stinks.” He then walked into the hall and said, “This hallway stinks!” Leaving the dormitory, he exclaimed, “The whole world stinks!” never realizing he was the problem.
If you play the Blame Game, then one day you will be asking yourself, “Why did I do that?”
