Daily Devotion: Rooted

Bible Reading: Ephesians 3:1-20

Key Verse: Verse 17 - "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,"

Key Words: being rooted and grounded in love

The word rooted means to be firmly established (grounded) in love. For one to love God, love friends, and even foes, there must be a maturity in one’s life, a spiritual maturity. Being rooted in love doesn’t mean weakness or being cowardly. It means we stand up for what we love and know is righteous. A great example of that would be Patrick Henry’s motivational address to the House of Burgesses Virginia, in March, 1775:

“They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs, and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, and the brave. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged!”

Today, when people, yes, even preachers are confronted with challenges, they choose to run when they should be rooted!

What to do:
✞ You know how spiritually mature you are by your running or your being rooted.
