Bible
All of us have principles that
help guide our lives. The road to
spiritual success though is not simply a man-made code or set of standards but
Scriptural principles.
I have been told on a few
occasions that my principles were too high, too lofty, unattainable; and on a
few occasions, I have been told I have no principles. In all candor, on most of these occasions, I
have found that what some considered Biblical principles were not Biblical at
all, they were man-made standards.
Below is a list of ten principles that General Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, used to guide his life.
1. Consider your body as the temple
of the Holy Spirit and treat it with reverence and care. I Corinthians 6:19-20
2. Keep your mind active. Stimulate it with thoughts of others that
lead to doing something. Philippians 4:8
3. Take time to be holy through daily
Bible reading and prayer. Psalm 119:11
4. Support your church and pastor,
for if you don't they will both cease to be!
Hebrews 10:25, I Timothy 5:17-18
5. Take God into the details of your
life. You naturally call upon Him in
time of trouble but thank Him for all things.
Romans 8:28
6. Cultivate the presence of
God. Always remember that God is
near. Hebrews 13:5
7. Pray for the troubled,
war-threatened world and its leaders who hold the destiny of so many in their
hands. I Timothy 2:1-2
8. Have a thankful spirit. I Thessalonians 5:18
9. Work as if everything depends on
you and pray as if everything depends on God. Philippians 1:21
10. Think of death, not as something
to be dreaded, but as a great and new experience where loved ones are met,
ambitions realized, and Jesus seen face to face. II Corinthians 5:8
