Daily Devotion: Where Is the Daubing?

Bible Reading: Ezekiel 13:1-16

Key Verse: Verse 12 – “Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it?"

Key Words:
Where is the daubing

Daubing is not a term we use today. It actually means plaster or mud. It was the daubing that would hold a house or building together to keep it from falling. So if a building fell, the people would ask, “Where is the daubing? What’s wrong with the daubing?”

There is an analogy here. The false prophets were telling the people of Israel that there is a day coming…victory is at hand…peace is at hand. But the prophecies kept failing. So Ezekiel asked, “If the daubing fails, we all ask, where is the daubing? But when their prophecies fail, we say nothing and keep believing them.”

Daniel Webster said: “If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, error will be. If the evangelical volume does not reach every community, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will. If the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degeneration and misery, corruption and darkness, will reign without mitigation or end.” These words of a century-and-a-half ago had a strangely prophetic ring. What to do:
✞ We often hear, “Let freedom ring.” But freedom will only ring as we shout out the Truth.
