Have you ever heard the term
pharisaical? It is usually used to
describe someone who focuses on standards and rules. But in reality, the Pharisee was someone who
was hypocritical (read Matthew 23).
One thing that makes a person
pharisaical is that they are takers but not givers.
Reminds me of the story of the
young man whose mom asked him to mow the grass, sarcastically he responded,
"For $5.00 I will."
That afternoon when he went to his
bedroom, he found the following note from his mom laying on his bed. It read:
"Son, for the food you eat, you owe nothing. For the room you call yours which you use and
I pay for, you owe nothing. For the
clothes you wear, you owe nothing. For
the education you receive, you owe nothing.
For us running you to and fro to all your events you want to be involved
in, you owe nothing. For the love of
your siblings and your dad and I, you owe nothing. Here is $5.00, go mow the grass."
What to do:
✞ Be a Christian - a giver.
