Daily Devotion: Peacemakers vs. Troublemakers

Bible Reading:  Matthew 5:9 and Romans 12:18-21

Key Verse:  Verse 18 - If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Key Words:  as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men

Sin introduced conflict into the world.  The first sin separated man from God.  The second sin, Cain's murder of Abel, separated man from man.

A peacemaker will do their very best to walk away from a fight, but even a peacemaker who is pushed into a corner will take an occasional swing.

A certain mountain in West Africa was held by a tribe of cannibals as their stronghold.  Troops had tried to cross the mountain, but had failed.  One day a missionary went alone into the enemy's country, calmly climbed the mountain, and reached the other side.  Later, he met the captain of the troops.  "Do you mean to tell me you have got through untouched?" he said.  "How did you do it?"  Said the missionary, "You went as men of war; I went as a man of peace."

Lord, make me the instrument of Your peace,

Where there is hatred, may I bring love;

Where there is malice, pardon;

Where there is discord, harmony;

Where there is error, truth;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, Your light;

Where there is sadness, may I bring joy.

Oh, Master, may I seek not so much

To be comforted as to comfort,

To be understood as to understand,

To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

It is in losing our lives that we shall find them,

It is in forgiving that we shall be forgiven,

It is in dying that we shall rise up to eternal life.

What to do:
✞ Go the extra mile to be a peacemaker.  You'll find it much more rewarding than the road of a troublemaker.
