Let me ask you, what do you know
about Joseph? We all know that he was betrayed by his brothers. We know he was
sold into slavery. We know that Potiphar’s wife set her eyes on him. We know
that he served time in prison and was eventually governor of Egypt, and his
foresight spared Israel from a famine. We know his mother was Rachel; we know
his father was Jacob; and we know about his brothers: Dan, Naphtali, Gad,
Asher, Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, and Benjamin. We know that he had a sister
named Dinah, and we all know about his coat of many colors.
But, are you aware of the fact
that nothing negative is ever said by God about Joseph? Now, he was not a
sinless man; but he would certainly be a good example to go by.
When our girls were growing up, my
wife hand-made just about all of their clothes. She did this for two reasons:
first, she loved to sew; and secondly, finances were tight. My wife was
continually going to the fabric store to purchase her sewing material. One of
the things she would buy was a pattern for the dress the girls were going to
wear. My wife would lay the material out, place the pattern on the material,
and cut the material out based upon the layout of the pattern. You know, those
dresses always came out right as long as she went by the pattern. The problem
with many of our youth today is that they are being raised either with no Godly
pattern in their lives or no pattern at all.
Every one of us needs a pattern to
go by if we are going to “turn out right.” While Jesus is the perfect pattern,
Joseph is not a bad one.
What to do:
✞ Make sure you choose a Godly pattern to go by.
