Daily Devotion: Aaron – A Lesson on Spiritual Gifts

Bible Reading: Exodus 4:10-17

Key Verse: Verse 16 - “And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.”

Key Words: And he shall be thy spokesman

Herbert Lockyer, in his book All the Men of the Bible, says in regard to Aaron, “The first glimpse we have of Aaron is that of being an eloquent speaker; and because of this, he was chosen by God to be the prophet and spokesman for his brother, Moses, in his encounters with Pharaoh. The fame of his oratory was known in heaven and recognized by God.”

To me it is interesting that, as you study Moses and Aaron, you see a contrast. Moses was not eloquent in speech; he was a poor speaker. But, while Aaron was a great orator, Aaron was not a good leader, per se. Remember in Exodus 32, he allowed the people to worship the false god and even participated himself; but Moses, on the other hand, was a great leader – proving that God has a gift for each of us, and if we use that gift for God’s glory, we become a unified body working together.

Your gift is needed as well!!

A well-known conductor was holding a rehearsal one night with a vast array of musicians and a one hundred- voice choir. While the mighty chorus sang out, there was also the peal of organ, blare of horns, and clashing of cymbals. Far back in the orchestra the piccolo player thought, “In all this noise it doesn’t matter what I do.” So he stopped playing. Suddenly the conductor flung up his hands, stopping the music. Someone, he knew, had failed to play his instrument. The shrill note of the piccolo had been missed. Just as many notes are needed to make a tune and many colors needed to make a painting; so many gifts are essential for the functioning of the body of Christ.

And so it is with your gifts as well.

What to do:
✞ Use your gift for God, even if you do not see any value in it.
