Daily Devotion: Daniel – The Man With An Excellent Attitude

Bible Reading: Daniel 6:1-9

Key Verse: Verse 3 - “Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.”

Key Words: because an excellent spirit was in him

Mark the word spirit found in verse three; it actually carries the idea of our attitude. Daniel had an excellent attitude.

Have you ever considered how we all can keep an excellent attitude? Let me suggest four things to do.

  1. Focus on God, not yourself.

  2. Look to the future, not the past.

  3. Have some spiritual goals for your life.

  4. View problems as potential possibilities.

There is no question that Daniel’s attitude was at least part of the reason for his success (verse 28).

Todd Hunter conducted an in-depth survey on pastoral success. All of the pastors he researched were hard and diligent workers. Some of the pastors experienced success while others did not. After compiling the results, Hunter noted a curious phenomenon concerning attitudes. Ninety-five percent of the successful pastors had a continual positive attitude, while eighty-two percent of the unsuccessful pastors had a continual negative attitude.

The moral of all this is if you feel unsuccessful, maybe you need an attitude check.

Daniel’s excellent spirit (attitude) came from a close relationship with the Lord. I would advise that we all give that a try.

What to do:
✞ Keep your relationship with God right and an excellent spirit will always be close around.
