As you read about Abraham from
Genesis, chapters 12 through 25, you find that Abraham was a man of great faith
even though not one time do you find the word faith in connection with Abraham
in the book of Genesis. But we know that he had great faith because he is
mentioned in Hebrews 11 in God’s “hall of faith.”
We know at least three things in
regard to Abraham and his faith in God.
First of all, he had the faith to
obey an impossible call. Hebrews 11:8 says, “By faith Abraham, when he was
called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance,
obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.”
Secondly, he had the faith to deal
with an impossible condition. Hebrews 11:9, “By faith he sojourned in the land
of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and
Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:”
Thirdly, he had the faith to obey
an impossible command. Hebrews 11:17, “By faith Abraham, when he was tried,
offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only
begotten son.”
Abraham was truly a man of faith.
The African impala can jump to a height of over ten feet and cover a distance of greater than thirty feet. Yet these magnificent creatures can be kept in an enclosure in any zoo with a three-foot wall. The animals will not jump if they cannot see where their feet will fall. Faith is the ability to trust what we cannot see, and with faith we are freed from the flimsy enclosures from a life of fear that tries to entrap us.
Abraham had this faith!! The question is, do you?
What to do:
✞ Remember faith is taking God at His Word, in spite of my feelings, circumstances, or consequences. Live by faith.
