Daily Devotion: How to Possess

Bible Reading: I Thessalonians 4:1-12

Key Verse: Verse 4 - "That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;"

Key Words: how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour

The immorality that exists in our day is absolutely astounding. A very fine Christian leader holds Bible classes on the campus of a college in California where the boys’ dormitory is Sodom and the girls’ dormitory is Gomorrah. These poor kids know all about sex, but they don’t know about love. God says that the body should be saved for the marriage relationship, and this applies to men and women. There are all sorts of reasons given for the fact that there is so much unhappiness in marriage. The problem is that the marriage partners are not people who have been set apart for the use of God and who are faithful to each other in a love relationship. When a person saves his body for marriage and is faithful to his partner, he is possessing his vessel “in sanctification and honour.” Such should be the practice of every child of God. Believe me, Paul puts it on the line.

Further, let me add that God is not satisfied that you’ve taken one step, no more than you are satisfied that your children take their first step. All they did was get started. They still have to go to school. They still have to go through the teenage years. They still have to grow up and get married and have a family. The first step is great, but don’t stop with excitement over the first step. All that’s occurred is the introduction to spiritual life. There is an ongoing process of developing in the body of Christ.

What to do:
✞ Everyday ask God to help you have your “vessel” (body) set apart for sanctification and honour.
