Daily Devotion: How About Those Words

Bible Reading: Proverbs 15:23-32

Key Verse: Verse 23 - "A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!"

Key Words: how good is it

Our words can help or hurt; they can bring joy or sadness—hope or hopelessness. They can motivate or cause one to quit. Words are powerful. A word that is given at just the right time and right place, and said in the right way-- spoken in love to help someone—how good is it!!

Charles Swindoll writes about a woman who committed suicide. She left an unfinished note that simply read, “They said…” She never completed her final thought, but whatever “they said” was painful enough for her to extinguish her own life. We say that “words can be deadly” and indeed, sometimes they are, literally. “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver” (Proverbs 25:11).

Our words do matter. Use them lovingly and with tact—so people will say of your words—how good it is.

What to do:
✞ Words matter. So make sure your brain is not in “neutral” while your mouth is in “drive.”
