Daily Devotion: How Can It Be?

Bible Reading: John 3:1-8

Key Verse: Verse 4 - "Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"

Key Words: How can a man be born when he is old

Nicodemus didn’t understand what Jesus was saying about salvation. Paul tells us in I Corinthians 2:14 that the natural man, or the person who isn’t born again cannot understand the things of God. It’s all foreign to them.

Some years ago, our family went to Brazil on a missions trip. When we arrived in the capital city of Brasilia, we had to change planes. This is where our adventure began. We were trying to catch our connecting flight to Manaus. The problem was that all the signs were written in Portuguese—and we couldn’t read Portuguese, of course. So we began to ask airport workers and law enforcement officers where our gate was for our flight to Manaus. No one—and I mean NO ONE—spoke English, and we couldn’t understand a word they were saying. This is the picture I have when we are telling others about Jesus. We are speaking a spiritual language they cannot comprehend. That’s where the Holy Spirit comes in, and He makes sense of it all to the natural man. So now he can know the truth and hopefully accept Jesus as his Savior.

What to do:
✞ Remember, it’s our responsibility to give out the plan of salvation and let God work from there.
