Daily Devotion: To Save a Nation

Bible Reading: Ephesians 4:17-32

Key Verse: Verse 22 – “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;"

Key Words: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man

Have you ever noticed just how ugly and steeped in sin the old man is? The old man is a liar, angry, a thief, corrupt in communication; he grieves the Holy Spirit; he is bitter, and the list goes on and on.

In Ecuador, the celebration of a new year has significance. During the week preceding January 1, people create and decorate scarecrow-like dummies. Then at midnight on December 31, they take these dummies out and set them on fire. It’s called “Burning the Old Man.” This tradition gives the people a sense of new beginnings and represents the burning away of their sins and shortcomings. Many of these people have not experienced the dross-burning power of Jesus Christ, so they ignite these effigies in hopes of removing their sin. For Christians, the knowledge of Christ’s redemption should cause us to confess our sins and “Burn the Old Man” everyday.

I have found when I fail to daily burn the old man, he always comes back to burn me.

What to do:
