Bible Reading: Judges 5:1-15
Key Verse: Verse 15 – “And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar, and also Barak: he was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart.:"
Key Words: For the divisions of Reuben
God used Deborah in providing a great victory for Israel. The problem was that Reuben did not help in the battle. They chose to take care of their personal needs rather than the “business of God.” As a result of this, the other tribes had great thoughts in their heart. In our everyday language, they were disturbed by the actions of the Reubenites.
Every church has their share of Reubenites, those who take care of their own personal business rather than join in the spiritual warfare of the day. The Reubenites in our churches sit on the sidelines enjoying the fruits gained by the efforts of others. I call these people “spiritual welfare recipients.”
Too many Reubenites in a church can be dangerous. Remember, one of the little sayings I have goes like this: “There once was a job anyone could do but no one did. Now when everyone found out that no one had done the job that anyone could have done, everyone got upset at someone.” Now the moral of the story is this: if everyone would have done what anyone could do, then no one would have gotten upset with anyone. So go on and get in the battle! Help others be victorious for God’s glory.
What to do:
✞ It is better to have a great heart than for others to not think so great of your heart.
