Daily Devotion: Love’s Action

Bible Reading: I Corinthians 13

Key Verse: Verse 8 - “Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”

Key Words: Charity never faileth

Have you ever counted the times we use the word love? I’m not sure of the exact number of times I use it, but I know I use it frequently. I wonder if we ever stop to think about what we are really saying.

In I Corinthians 13:4-7 we are given characteristics of love. 1) It suffers long or is long-suffering. Long-suffering is a fruit of the Spirit and it means it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. It means no matter what you do, I’m going to love you. 2) It is kind, never curt or crude. The word is also a form of the word gentle, another fruit of the Spirit which means reasonableness. 3) It is not envious; it doesn’t want what you have, but is content with what it has. 4) It vaunts not itself. It places others ahead of itself. 5) It is not puffed up. Love doesn’t think it’s better than everyone else. 6) Love doesn’t behave itself unseemly. It doesn’t show off or go into a temper tantrum. 7) It is not easily provoked. Another fruit of the Spirit is temperance. 8) It doesn’t think evil, particularly of others. 9) Love doesn’t rejoice in iniquity (immorality). 10) Love rejoices in the truth. 11) Love bears all things, puts things on its shoulder and carries a heavy load without complaining. 12) Love believes all things; in fact, faith: another fruit of the Spirit. 13) Love hopes all things. It wishes the best for others. 14) Love endures all things. Real love can’t be quenched...not if it is real love.

Now let’s be honest, when we say to others that we love them and when we say to God that we love Him, do we mean it? It is that love that will never fail!!

Thought:. If love never fails, then maybe we should stop and re-evaluate our lives.
