Daily Devotion: The Occult Part 1
Bible Reading: I Samuel 28:1-20
Key Verse: Verse 7 – “Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.”
Key Words: Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit
The word familiar in the Hebrew is where we get our word ventriloquist. It is a spirit of divination, the spirit of demons.
We often condemn Saul for going to the witch who communicated with demonic spirits, as well we should; but we fail to understand that we should teach against such things in our homes, schools, and churches…yes, many of our youth are experimenting with and delving into the world of “the spirits.”
According to a recent study by the Barna Group, 73% of American teens have participated in at least one type of psychic or witchcraft-related activity. This goes beyond reading horoscopes or watching something on television or the movies. Teens most commonly use ouija boards or read books about witchcraft or Wicca. 30% of teens have had their palms read and 27% have gone to fortune tellers.
Technoccult.net in a survey agrees with the Barna Group that 73% of teens have participated in occult activity.
Today, youth fail to understand that they literally are playing with demonic forces when they, out of the thrill of doing something different, the adrenaline rush, a moment of devilish excitement, can reap havoc in their lives for time and eternity.
For the saved youth, delving into the world of the occult can result in a life of vexation and depression. For the unsaved youth, it can result in demonic possession.
Satan makes his world look like a life of pleasure when in reality it is the road to a life of hell on earth!
