Dan Olweus, creator of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, defines bullying as “being exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one, but usually a small group of persons.
There are several indications that a child is being bullied. Some of these signs are:
- Complains frequently of headaches, stomachaches, or feeling sick.
- Has trouble sleeping or has frequent bad dreams.
- Has changes in eating habits.
- Hurts themselves.
- Appears sad, moody, angry, anxious or depressed when they come home.
- Talks about suicide.
- Loses desire to go to school or be around their peers.
You should certainly report it. You should also pray for those who are bullying you. Remember that “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord” (Romans 12:19b).
Remember everyone – and I do mean everyone – reaps what they sow. Do right; their day will come!!
Find a prayer partner with your youth pastor or his wife. Find someone who will encourage you, and pray with you and for you.
The natural tendency of a person being bullied is to cower down out of fear or to fight back. Maybe you heard about the fellow who was told by his physician, “Yes indeed, you do have rabies.” Upon hearing this, the patient immediately pulled out a pad and pencil and began to write. Thinking the man was making out his will, the doctor said, “Listen, this doesn’t mean you’re going to die. There’s a cure for rabies.” “I know that,” said the man. “I’m makin’ a list of people I’m gonna bite.”
Remember, it’s better to be bullied for doing right than to do wrong in order to stop the bullying.
What to do:
✞ You can take martial art lessons.
✞ You can hire a body guard.
✞ But the best solution is apply the principles listed in this devotion.
