Daily Devotion: L - Leadership

Bible Reading: II Kings 6:8-23

Key Verse: Verse 19 - “And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

Key Words: follow me

As you study the life of Elisha, you find that he had several great characteristics, one of which was leadership. That’s very obvious from reading our text.

Have you ever given any thought to what makes a leader a leader? Someone has said that a leader is a person who is going somewhere – but not going alone. He takes others with him. His ability in setting up situations in which others are willing to follow him and happy to work with him is a precious skill called leadership. This skill is made up of many qualities – thoughtfulness and consideration for others, enthusiasm, the ability to share responsibility with others, and a multitude of other traits. But fundamentally a leader is one who leads, one who has a plan, one who keeps headed toward a goal and a purpose. He has the enthusiasm to keep moving forward in such a way that others gladly go with him.

Vance Packard said, “Leadership appears to be the art of getting others to want to do something you are convinced should be done.”

We do need leaders today, not just any kind of leader, but spiritual leaders for our home, church, business, and government. Today, dedicate yourself to be a leader for God.
