Daily Devotion: H - Hope

Bible Reading: I Timothy 1:1-15

Key Verse: Verse 1 - "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

Key Words: and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope

The word hope means a confident expectation. The world’s meaning of hope is different from that of the Scripture. When the world speaks of hope, they are speaking of something wished for.

In the last presidential election we heard a lot about hope – the audacity to hope. But hope like faith can only be as good as the object of one’s hope. If our hope is in man or a political system, a job, money, or even our family, we are bound to be disappointed. Each of these is prone to let us down, to fail.

As a believer, our hope should never be in any of the above; but as our text says, our hope is in Jesus Christ. He is our Confident Expectation.

I like to use the following analogy when talking about the object of our faith. If a young man stands over a frozen pond with only a thin sheet of ice and says, “I believe the ice will hold me,” and he jumps and goes cracking through the ice, the problem was not his “hope.” He had confident expectation that the ice would hold. The problem was the object of his hope.

So when man talks about having hope and raises the anticipation that we do have hope – it really all depends on whom that hope is in!!!

What to do:
✞ Remember not to be negative, but without God there is no hope, but in God there is no hopelessness.
