Daily Devotion: Who Is He?

Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 4:7-16

Key Verse: Verse 16 - “There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and vexation of spirit."

Key Words: shall not rejoice in him

Who will remember you? Who will recognize your name or your accomplishments after you are gone? The truth is very few, if any, will say, “Oh yes! I’ve heard of them!”

That’s what Solomon says. People come and people go, there is no end to their coming and their going; and nobody rejoices in them, because nobody has ever heard of them.

The other day I was talking with some youth and asked them how many of them had heard of Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, or Yogi Berra. The all just stared at me until finally one asked if they were people that they should know.

Jaime O'Neil, a college professor, taught for more than twenty years. While teaching in the state of Washington he became very concerned that too many students knew too many things that “just ain’t so.” To help diagnose the problem he developed an eighty-six question quiz to test the general knowledge of his college students. Here are some of the responses to that quiz. “Charles Darwin invented gravity. Ralph Nader is a baseball player. Christ lived in the sixteenth century. Sid Caesar was an early Roman emperor. Mark Twain invented the cotton gin. Dwight Eisenhower served as president in the seventeenth century. Socrates was an Indian chief. Camp David is in Israel.

So much for making a name for ourselves!! Since no one is going to remember us, why don’t we join together to make a glorious name for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

What to do:
✞ Live for Christ; nothing else is as important!
