Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 10:16-20
Key Verse: Verse 20 - “Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry voice, and that which hath wings shall tell matter."
Key Words: and that which hath wings will tell the matter
Solomon closes out chapter 10 with four problems. First in verses 16-17 there is the problem of over-indulgence. In verse 18 there is the problem of incompetence. In verse 19 there is the problem of indifference. But in verse 20 the problem is one of indiscretion, saying what should not be said. Trust me, if you say it, it will spread.
Four preachers were out together and wanted to have a confession time. They were talking about their various failures. One preacher said, "Well, you know, I sometimeswatch movies I shouldn't be watching." Another preacher said, "Well you know, I go to the casino and gamble occasionally." The other guy said, "You know, when I'm by myself I smoke cigars and cigarettes." The fourth preacher said, "Well, my sin is gossip and I can't wait to get out of here.”
If you don’t want something you said repeated to others, then you’d best just keep that thought to yourself.
What to do:
✞ Remember, no matter what you say, a little bird is listening.
