Daily Devotion: What God Loves: Israel

Bible Reading: Deuteronomy7:1-10

Key Verse: Verse 8 – “But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”

Key Words: because the LORD loved you

We read on several occasions from God’s Word how He loves Israel (Isaiah 63:9; Jeremiah 31:3; II Chronicles 2:11), just to name a few.

God loved Israel for various reasons, but primarily because they were the chosen nation which the Messiah would “come to and through.”

While God gave the law to Israel through Moses, God’s love for Israel was unconditional (Jeremiah 31:3).

A college professor was impressing upon his student how God loved them.  He used this to illustrate: In America there is a law stating a woman must take care of her child. So, a man comes to a new mother's home. He says "Are you taking care of your baby? The Law says you have to." The woman, tenderly holding her baby, said, "I don't need a law to make me take care of my baby." Why? Because she loves her baby! She feeds him, holds him, changes him because she loves him. I no longer need the Law because I'm under Christ -- a law of LOVE.  So it is with God – God loves Israel and has nurtured her, protected her, and will one day create a new earth for her.  While God loves all people, He also loves Israel.

What to do:
✞ Love Israel…she is still God’s “chosen” people.
