The Humanist Manifesto espouses three primary doctrines. First of all, it teaches atheism, that there is no God. Secondly, it espouses that since there is no God; man must have evolved into being. Thirdly, since there is no God and since man evolved into existence, man is amoral in character. The word amoral means no absolutes. Man must choose for himself what is moral. What I deem to be immoral, another person can declare moral, and neither of us are wrong. Each person decides for himself what is right or wrong, what is true or false, what is good or evil. These things become a shade of gray.
Christians today take a stand against atheism and evolution, but believers all across this great land of ours have bitten into the humanistic apple of amorality and like the taste of it, because it allows them to “sin” with a clear conscience.
Is that not what happened in the Garden of Eden? Remember what kind of tree was forbidden to Adam and Eve? It was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Allow me, please, to take you step by step through Satan’s humanistic scheme to deceive Adam and Eve.
Step One - Christians can’t do anything (the Christian life is no fun). In Genesis 3:1 Satan misquoted God, “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” Adam and Eve, if you obey God you can’t do anything.
Step Two - There is nothing wrong with it. “Ye shall not surely die.” Thus, Christians all across the land are asking the humanistic question, “What’s wrong with it?”
Step Three - You don’t need someone telling you what is good and evil. Decide for yourself. Satan told Adam and Eve, “Then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” You can decide for yourself. Now, isn’t that where Christianity is today? Don’t tell me what is right or wrong, true or false, good or evil; because in life there are those things which are a shade of gray and I will determine for myself what is right or wrong, true or false, good or evil.
The truth is that many believers are far more humanistic than they realize, and maybe it’s time that we fulfill Paul’s admonition in Romans 12:2 and have our minds renewed. Then we will see that all things are either black or white, rather than the humanist’s shade of gray.
What to do:
✞ Look at sin from a Biblical view, not a humanistic view.
