Daily Devotion: A Biblical View of the Power of God

Bible Reading: Isaiah 40:12-31

Key Verse: Verse 12 - “Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

Key Words: Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance

The humanists of our day question the power of God; but I am certainly glad that in times of uncertainty it is good that God is in control. There is no Scripture that teaches this lesson any clearer than does Isaiah, chapter 40.

We are told that the oceans of the world contain more than 340 quintillion gallons of water, yet God holds them “in the hollow of his hand” (Isaiah 40:12).

The earth weighs 6 sextillion metric tons, yet God declares in Isaiah 40:15, “Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.”

Did you know that the universe stretches more than 30 billion light years (200 sextillion miles) but that God can measure it with His hand? Isaiah 40:12a says, “Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span?”

Scientists claim there are at least 100 billion galaxies and that each galaxy is made up of about 100 billion stars. But notice in Isaiah 40:26 that God knows them all by name, “Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things that bringeth out their host by number, he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.”

It is no wonder that Isaiah ended the chapter with these words in verse 31, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Now, what is it that God cannot handle in your life? No matter what the humanists may say we ought to just stop for a moment and praise God everyday for His great power.
