Daily Devotion: What’s the Answer?

Bible Reading: II Samuel 24:10-17

Key Verse: Verse 13 - “So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

Key Words: what answer I shall return to him that sent me

Whatsoever is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23). David numbered the people which I believe was an act of pride. See how many we have; see how large we are—David is now relying on numbers rather than God. The result of this sin was three days of pestilences.

We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. ~A. Lincoln, Proclamation of a Day of National Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer, 1863

The answer in life is not in how much we have or how big we are, but in how much God has and how big He is!!

What to do:
