Daily Devotion: What Can The Righteous Do?

Bible Reading: Psalm 11

Key Verse: Verse 3 - “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Key Words: If the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do

David says there is a point of a nation’s depravity that a nation can never recover from. “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” David cried. The word “foundations” comes from a Hebrew word meaning “the settled order of things.” David likened society to a building. The foundation of society is law and order, justice and truth. If law and order, justice and truth are undermined in a society then what can the righteous do? In the original test, the form of the question is such that David can find no answer. Has America reached that point of no return? I don’t know. All I know is that we as God’s people must stand for truth and righteousness.

In the premiere issue of Full Armor, Gunnery Sergeant Tom Shanks told about the Iraqis’ response to the Marine invasion during the Persian Gulf War. “The Iraqis were told that to be a U.S. Marine we had to kill one of our relatives,” said Shanks. No wonder we saw Iraqi soldiers surrendering in groveling fear: Likewise, Satan has spread lies about Christians and their faith that has given many people a distorted view of the gospel. As soldiers of the cross, we must make sure God’s truth is effectively communicated. If not, we as a nation will, if we haven’t already, erach the point of “no return” at least until the Lord’s return.

What to do:
