Daily Devotion: Why Is This Happened to Us?

Bible Reading: Judges 6:11-24

Key Verse: Verse 13 – “And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites."

Key Words: why then is all this befallen us?

An angel from God appeared before Gideon and reminded him that God was with him. So Gideon’s question was, If God is with us, why are we under bondage to the Midianites? God’s answer can be found in verse 14, “And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites; have not I sent thee?”

The Holocaust is one of the terribly traumatic episodes of modern history, yet it has also yielded some astounding stories of bravery and faith. In France a Jewish family were hidden by some concerned French nationals in the basement of their house. The Jewish family waited and waited for their deliverance. At the end of the war these words were found scribbled on the wall of that basement:

“I believe in the sun even when it does not shine.
I believe in love even when it is not given.
I believe in God even when He is silent.”

Why do things happen to us? Ultimately, things happen for our good and His Glory.

What to do:
✞ Faith isn’t just for the good times; it’s for the not-so-good times as well. Live by faith during both of these times.
