Daily Devotion: What About Their Standards?

Bible Reading:  I Timothy 2

Key Verse: Verse 9  In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

Key Words: modest apparel

I do know that we live in some immodest times. Women’s clothing is getting lower on top and higher on the bottom. Some young men wear their pants half way down their backsides. I also know that many who think they have the higher standards would be considered “very immodest” in days gone by.

In Puritan England, all sports events were considered immodest.

If you celebrated Christmas at all, you were immodest.

If you performed “religious music--?” apart from the church, you were immodest.

If you wore lace, frills, or shoe buckles, you were immodest, and this is just a sampling of the list. So based upon the above list, there is no one, and I repeat, no one who would NOT be considered as being immodest.

The word modest in its purest form means “to not overdo it.” One should be modest in dress. One should be modest in their speech and how much they say. One should be modest in their activities and modest in their opinions of others.

One who does not control their tongue is immodest.

One who does not control their temper is immodest.

One who always complains about the immodesty of others is immodest.

I do believe in modesty in dress. The Bible teaches us to be modest in our dress, but we should put the same modesty into practice in every facet of our lives. Remember, back in the Puritan days, you aren’t modest either.

Maybe I have said too much--- and ---. I was just immodest.

What to do:
✞ Be modest in every point of your life, not just those that suit your fancy.
