Daily Devotion: The Little Things Do Matter

Bible Reading:  Song of Solomon 2

Key Verse: Verse  15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.

Key Words: the little foxes, that spoil the vines

Grapes were and are a major part of the fruit industry in Israel. During Solomon’s day a fence would be placed around the field of grapes to keep the fox from entering and destroying the grapes. The problem was that the gap between the wires in the fences would allow the smaller foxes to crawl through and destroy the grapes.

There is a point to this Bible truth. It’s usually not what we consider the big sins that destroy us. It is the small ones we fail to take care of, such as:

  • Taking care of that little frustration we have with others before it grows into bitterness.
  • Not taking time to have a close relationship with God today, which grows into not taking time tomorrow –or the next day –or the next, which leads us into “walking alone by sight.” Remember that walking with God is by faith.
  • Not having a proper filing system, which leads to not being able to find things when you need them which leads to confusion and frustration.

Certainly by now you get the idea.

Imagine all the obstacles a person might have to overcome if he were to walk from New York City to San Francisco. One man who accomplished this rare achievement mentioned a rather surprising difficulty when asked to tell of his biggest hurdle. He said that the toughest part of the trip was not traversing the steep slopes of the mountains or crossing hot, dry, barren stretches of desert. Instead he said, “The thing that came the closest to defeating me was the sand in my shoes.”

Oh the little things! They’ve defeated you just about every time. Watch out for the little things that will destroy your testimony.

What to do:
✞ Keep the “little foxes” out. They kill your testimony slowly, but surely.
