Daily Devotion: Snakebite Remedy

Bible Reading: Hebrews 2:1-9

Key Verse: Verse 2 - “For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;”

Key Words: For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast

Isn’t it great to know that God’s Word is steadfast, and that it is an antidote for what ails you?  The following story, taken from the Gospel Herald, illustrates this point.

“A black snake slithered out of a cave, and the old timer in the Tennessee hills watched it pause a short distance from the mouth of the cave.  The reptile took a few bites of a certain plant and wended its way back into the cave.  Mr. Old Timer watched the snake repeat this performance two or three times, each time biting on the plant and returning to the cave.

“‘I’ll venture the black snake is fighting with a deadly rattler in there,’ he thought to himself.  ‘He comes out here and bites this plant to offset the poison of those fangs, I believe.  Just to make sure, I’ll make a test.’  Waiting until the black snake returned to the cave again, he slipped from behind his bush of observation, uprooted the plant and removed it, and returned to watch the results.  He regretted his deed, but his suspicions were confirmed when he saw the heroic snake search in vain for the plant, and then curl up and die.”

A specific remedy has been provided for the bite of “that old serpent...the Devil” – the Eternal Word of God.  Let him come with his poisonous: “Go ahead and do it – thou shalt not surely die,” and the Christian may run to the Word of Life and find the antidote.

What to do:
God’s Word is the remedy for fixing “snakebites.”
    Stay in the Word.
