Bible Reading:

Hebrews 4:1-12

Key Verse: Verse 12For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Key Words: quick, and powerful

The Word of God has been used by the Holy Spirit to bring men under conviction and change their lives.

v         It changed Paul from a persecutor to a preacher.

v         It changed the Samaritan woman from worldliness      to being a witness.

v         It changed Peter from being a fisherman to being a follower of Christ.

Aren’t you glad that God, through His Word, is able to change us?

James Calvert (1813-1892) was a zealous missionary to the cannibals on the Fiji Islands.  His faithful work bore fruit in the lives of those who were accustomed to taking the lives of others.

A leader of the English government visited the Fiji Islands and was critical of the Islands’ chief for converting to Christianity.  The English leader is said to have told the chief, “You are a great leader, but it’s a pity that you have been taken in by Calvert and his gospel.  Chief, no one believes the Bible anymore.  People are weary of the threadbare story of Christ dying on the cross for the sins of mankind.  They know better now.”

The chief then responded, “See that great rock over there?  On it we once smashed the heads of our victims.  Notice the furnace next to it.  In that furnace we roasted the bodies of our enemies.  If it had not been for Calvert bringing in the gospel of Jesus Christ which changed us, we would be feasting on you right now.  Aren’t you glad we have changed?”

So I say to all those who get upset with others who are sold out to God: aren’t you glad they have changed?

What to do:

✞ Daily let God’s Word change you.
✞ Be teachable.  Unteachable people never change – they just rust and corrode.
✞ Take advantage of every opportunity to be under the Word of God.
