Bible Reading: Psalm 48
Key Verse: Verse 14 – “For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our
guide even unto death.”
Key
Words: he will be our guide
In 1991,
Pizza Hut unknowingly offered some divine guidance through their Atlanta billboard. It seems as though an Atlanta, Georgia
a fashion designer claimed to have received an answer to her prayers in the
middle of a forkful of Pizza Hut spaghetti.
She had prayed for a divine sign to help her decide on whether to stay
in the church choir or begin a professional singing career. While driving past the billboard, she claims
to have seen the face of Michelangelo’s version of Christ’s face in the strands
of spaghetti hanging from the fork. She
took that to mean that the Lord wanted her to stay in the choir.
Now, you do know, I hope, that God does not guide us through billboards,
visions, or dreams. God guides us
through His Word.
v
God
guided Noah through His Word. (Genesis
6:14)
v
God
guided Abraham through His Word. (Genesis
12:1)
v
God
guided Moses through His Word. (Exodus
3:1)
v
God
guided Joshua through His Word. (Joshua 1:1)
Remember, it was God who told Elijah to go to Cherith, then to
Zarephath, and then on to face Ahab.
Elijah was guided by the Word of God.
When we act independently of God’s Word, we
always end up in turmoil and strife. We
should all dedicate ourselves to heed the advice of the psalmist: “…he will be our guide….”
What to do: ✞ Never use human logic to justify your actions. ✞ God will always use His Word to guide, so stay in
the Word.
✞ Always ask three basic questions when making a
decision.1. Will it build up or tear down my testimony
for Christ?
2. Will
it glorify God or simply make me happy?
3. Will it build others up in the
faith?
