Key Verse: Verse 5 – “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
Key Words: Let him ask
I am often asked advice in regard to how to successfully blend two families together.
Let us face reality: divorce today is rampant; remarriage in many cases is inevitable; and blended families are on the rise. But divorce and remarriage are not the only reasons we have blended families. They may also be the result of the death of a spouse. Whatever the reason, we live in a day of blended families.
Here are some spiritual guidelines that can help; but remember, it is going to take God’s grace to be successful.
Make things right with God in your personal life. Any unconfessed sin should be acknowledged.
(I John 1:9)
Ask God for wisdom. (James 1:5)
Remember where your rest is. (Matthew 11:28-30)
Have a family altar and train the family to think and act with God in mind. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
Have your personal Bible devotions daily. (Joshua 1:8)
Remember that patience is a virtue. (II Peter 1:5-7, Galatians 5:22-23)
Some practical advice…move! Do not live in either spouse’s house. Children see that as their domain.
Have the same rules for all children, and be consistent. (Philippians 3:16)
Communicate as a couple. Be on the same page together. Remember, “Evil communications corrupt good manners.” (I Corinthians 15:33 )
Keep your marriage second only to Christ in your priorities. Raise your children in the house of God. (Matthew 6:33)
What to do:
✞ Simply put the above principles into practice and pray, pray, pray!
