Voltaire's House at BP 5 - allée du château F-01210 Ferney-Voltaire |
Bible Reading: Matthew 24:29-35
Key Verse: Verse 35 - “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
Key Words: my words shall not pass away
In all of my thirty-four years in the ministry, I have never had anyone ask me to read to them the works of an atheist such as Kant, Hume, or Voltaire. The only book people ask for when they are hurting is God’s Word. It is the only book that will last through the annals of time.
Voltaire, the French philosopher, did not accept the tenets of Christianity. He rejected the Word of God, and Voltaire predicted Christianity would be swept from existence and pass into history within one hundred years of his lifetime. Voltaire died in 1778. At the time of his death, he had written ninety-two volumes against the Bible. At an auction after his death, all ninety-two volumes of his work sold for a mere $4.00 in American currency. Fifty years after his death, the Geneva Bible Society moved into his house and used his printing press to produce thousands of Bibles that were distributed worldwide.
Indeed, we can say with assurance, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).
The Bible does stand!!
