Daily Devotion: Pharaoh Amenemha (The Pharaoh Who Rebuked Abraham)

Bible Reading: Genesis 12:10-20

Key Verse: Verse 18 – “And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?

Key Words: And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? Why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?

Amenemha was the first leader of the Egyptian dynasty.

The text before us is surely not filled with joy and glee. Abraham had gone into Egypt against the will of God and had Sarah lie about her true identity. Amenemha was about to take Sarah as one of his wives when God through His chastening revealed to the Pharaoh that Sarah was married to Abraham. Then Amenemha rebuked Abraham for his deceitfulness.

What a sad state when the world has to rebuke a believer for not doing right!

When Queen Victoria was a child, she didn’t know she was in line for the throne of England. Her instructors, trying to prepare her for the future, were frustrated because they couldn’t motivate her. She just didn’t take her studies seriously. Finally, her teachers decided to tell her that one day she would become the queen of England. Upon hearing this, Victoria quietly said, “Then I will be good.” The realization that she had inherited this high calling gave her a sense of responsibility that profoundly affected her conduct from then on.

Every believer is a child of the King, and we should conduct ourselves as such. Heaven forbid that to the world we ever look “wrong.”
